Five for Friday: Summer Has Started Edition!

Hello from the wonderful world of summer vacation! The days have kind of all blurred together this week, but I knew I had to be ready for Five for Friday.

I declared this "No Adulting Week" and have blissfully spent my time doing things such as:

Napping
Wandering around Target with a S'mores Frappucino
Napping with the dogs
Reading
Wandering around Fresh Market and Trader Joes
Napping when it rains
Making various internet purchases (which I need to STOP doing ASAP)
Napping during Netflix binges
Wandering around craft stores
Getting a tan
And also napping

While part of me would be content to spend my whole summer like this, another part of me has goals I would like to achieve before heading back to school. So, next week there will be less napping and more of the doing of things. Here are 5 things I want to do this summer:

Take Care of (My) Business, aka Put My #teacherpreneur Hat On

I didn't get started with TpT until late last summer, so I'm excited to have the whole summer this year to put in some work! I'm ready to take the next steps and really get my name out there. I know with a little bit of focus and goal setting, I can turn my store from a fun little hobby into a legitimate side business.

One step I took that I'm really excited about is enrolling in Teacher Entrepreneur School! I think it is exactly what I need to get myself on track. I just printed out the modules and am excited to get started!

Update My Website

So, I was in such a hurry to get started with everything last summer, I didn't put a lot of thought into branding or having a unique website design. My current design is a premade template, which is cute... but it has served it's purpose and I am itching for a change. I want to make sure I have a brand that really reflects my style that I can implement across my blog and all my social media platforms. I've been entertaining the idea of doing it myself...but I think in the end I will be better off leaving it to the experts. I want to stick with Blogger and am a fan of the modern, responsive templates.  Do you guys have any designers you loved working with? If you designed your own blog (particularly if you worked with a Georgia Lou template), on a scale of 1-10, how painful was it? I welcome any and all suggestions!

Up My Social Media Game

Ah, summer...the time to try new things. In addition to updating my Facebook and Pinterest pages, I also recently set up Twitter and Instagram accounts. I don't really know what I'm doing with any of this, but feel free to follow me and laugh while I figure it out!

Plan as Much as Possible for the Next School Year

In addition to teaching two grade levels next year (more info upcoming!), I also, in a fit of insanity inspiration, agreed to take on additional duties as team leader and mentor coordinator. While I am excited about these opportunities, I want to make sure I don't pull all of my hair out come August, which means some frontloading is going to be necessary. Be sure to check back Monday as I show you how I'm using my bullet journal to help me plan out my year!

Be Creative

A visit to the National Gallery of Art in DC this winter reignited my love for all things artistic, and I want to make sure I have some creative outlets this summer. In addition to practicing my hand lettering and sketching, I'm excited to finally dig in to this cross stitch gift I got for Christmas last year:

My boyfriend (who is as creative as a box of Cheerios, but very supportive of my artistic endeavors) got this for me after Googling "creative ways to relieve stress." Have I mentioned how much I adore him? Looking forward to making some fun artwork for the house!

I'm looking forward to a busy but rewarding summer! Don't worry, I have plenty of naps on the agenda still. How are you speding your summer?

  3. I LOVE your no adulting week! I wish I could have done that this week! Too many things going on…Anyway, if you need a blog designer, check out Megan Favre at A Bird in Hand Designs (she's also "I Teach What's Your Superpower?"). She is AMAZING and when I mess something up (which happens occasionally) she always helps me fix it! She'll even design matching business cards for an extra fee if you want. (SO worth it!)

  7. Lots of exciting things! Team leading will make things busier but as one of my mentors said, you get to have positive influence on more students. It'll be worth it and it'll be an exciting period of growth! :) Looking forward to exchanging leadership lessons with you!

  9. I have had several no adulting weeks, and it has been SO nice! That being said, it's time to start crossing off some goals now, and like you I'm working on creating more things for TpT. What is Teacherpreneur school? That sounds like a perfect thing to do in the summer!

  11. LOVE your no adulting week... ahhhh someday... when my kids are grown. :) I tried to register for teacherpreneur school but it was full... next time. :) As far as a blog designer goes I'd highly recommend Alexis from Laugh Eat Learn Designs. She didn't design my blog but helped me fix and update my blog and is AMAZING to work with. I know her personally and she is so sweet and kind. She will stick with you until you are 100 percent satisfied. Can't say enough good things about her. :)
    Happy Summer!
    Joya :)
